RGV’s Satya (1998) | Re-Written to Learn

SATYA:Re-Written

All the points listed below is purely my understanding and learning from RGV’s Satya movie and has nothing to do with original movie. If any of the below points create disgrace to RGV garu or to any of the Satya movie team I convey my regrets as this is not my intention…Rasool Oruganti

Concept:

Ø  The story between a gangster-turned politician and his two mentees who started their own gangs after he moved to politics. The story runs on the background of human emotions which are not exceptional for gangsters.

Ø  The story of a person who believes in survival of the fittest. The story is about his journey with a gangster and with a girl who stays in his opposite flat.

Ø  However an original face is thrown to a corner with a secondary face for the survival, the actual struggle starts when he is not able to show is original face as his love was impressed with is secondary face.

Ø  However care we take for personal life; it is our professional life that defines personal life.

Ø  No human can know everything about the other however close they are. The extent we can understand the other purely depends on the extent the opposite express in front of us.

Story:

The human relations like husband, father, lover, friend, guru are shown in the gangsters who are working in groups for their existence. The story runs with a principle to show that a gun that is aimed at public and made them cry, one fine day will be aimed at them and made them cry. In order to make them cry love, friendship and betrayal were used.

 Characters:

Protagonist:  In this movie, the story revolves around 3 important characters: Satya, Bheeku & Vidhya

Satya: He is orphan. He is silent, introvert and doesn’t like others involving in his tasks.  He observes people, will think and reacts accordingly. He won’t involve in others but will react to anyone who tries to disturb him. He is strong enough to fight back 1 or 2 but he is smart enough to create confidence that he can stand against any number. He loves very few but very strongly.

Bheeku:  One of the top gangsters in the city. He behaves as if he has seen everything and reached this top position in gang wars. He acts more than he thinks; he talks more than he acts. He believes in people very easily as he don’t have patience to analyze them. He is extrovert, very bold and believes that he can go against any number of people.  He has lovable family, gang and a good friend who he believes, loves & respect.

Vidhya:  She has a very small world with aged & deceased parents where small things are part of her happiness as well as sadness. She looks simple, talks simple, lives simple and even believes others simply thinking only within the simple world she lives. This attitude created her peaceful life still she comes to know that behind that simple world there are more complicated people who acts as simple.

Antagonist:  In this story, there are 3 important characters that are rival to protagonists: Police, Guru, and Bhau.

Police: They want to cut down gangsters in the city. Some have tied up with gangsters where some want to tie the gangsters to graveyard. Some high level officer’s wants to deal this issue with humanity where some want to go beyond the rules to cut down the gangsters.

Guru: He is an old friend of Bheeku, who currently maintains separate gang. He is an opportunist, in the process of his work/growth he gives up or uses old relations.  He looks into his own work with a plan to expand his area, however if somebody disturbs him/his gang he will kill them even breaking the rules created within gangsters.

Bhau: He is the ex-leader of Bheeku and Guru, who currently moved into politics. He is selfish, who uses the emotions of his men who currently maintaining separate gangs for his political growth. He is such a shameless person who goes to any extent from threatening to begging, scolding to praising, caring to killing in order to attain his tasks. He is cruel enough to kill his own men after using them who are more clever or stronger than him.

Protagonist Supporters:

BheekuWife: She is very clear and straight forward woman. She is very good wife who loves her husband very much. Very nice mother who takes care of children and family, however Bheeku is busy in gang work/ going to jail. She might have grown up within the environment of bold, open minded people, hence she behaves freely, talks openly with full of confidence and boldness. She is very jovial just like Bheeku but will be more responsible and caring towards family

Kallu mama: Every one respects him for his age, friendliness and well thinking. Compared to all men in the gang he has more patience and has more experience in dealing people. He goes per situations and sometimes changes his mind according to his gang. He plays safe game and also loves his gang members very much.

Chander: On hearing and seeing different people, from his childhood he was very much interest in gang fights and gangsters.  He is not that much brave enough to involve in gang fights, but like to move within the gang. He believes, loves and respects Bheeku. For him Bheeku and the gang is the only world. He has a family, and believes Bheeku will take care of him. He is very jovial, live the life happily without any future tensions.

Yeda: He is a strong & the most dedicated member of Bheeku gang. He thinks and bothers only about the work and the people in the gang. Even if he interacts or maintain relation with other people it will be linked with work only.

Bhapu: He work and also maintains relations with people to the extent he want. He enjoys the life parallel with work. He will work for the team only to the extent.

Antagonist Supporters:

Jagga Bhai: He works for Guru one of the leading gangster in the city. He looks into activities like collecting money from all the shops in the area that belongs to Guru. He maintains small gang under him to share the work. He is short tempered, overconfident, egoist, and opportunist.

Sub Inspector: Khandilker is very clear on his stand against gangsters. He believes in encountering these gangsters, however sometimes due to his supervisors he needs to simply file the case on them. He is so much angry on gangsters, that he has taken Satya & Bheeku case personally after the death of his trainer cum supervisor.

Commissioner: Amod Sukla with his experience on working against gangsters and with his own leaders, he manages to bring shoot-out on gangsters. He is very clear in what he is doing and opens enough to tell that to required people.

Converters:

Mule: He is lawyer. He is aged but due to week body he won’t looks aged. He understand/study the people, situations and moves accordingly (we can see the difference in his behavior when he is with Bheeku and Bhau gang). RGV's Satya (1998) | Characters I learned

Satya:
All the points listed below is purely my understanding and learning from RGV’s Satya movie and has nothing to do with original movie. If any of the below points create disgrace to RGV garu or to any of the Satya movie team I convey my regrets as this is not my intention…Rasool Oruganti
Points that created Satya:

Ø  In the days where underworld mafia has got its wings to fly into the every corner of the city, most of the youngsters attracted towards gang wars feeling gangster as a hero. The truth that burns the heart is that everyone who takes the gun for sure will be killed by that gun but by the time they come to know this truth the gun will be aimed on their head.

Ø  In newspaper, everyday there used to be news on the people got killed by police or by some gangster. The terrible shock is that one day there is same news on the person who has stayed with us in the same apartment, with whom we used to talk friendly. Still we see him shot dead by police, we never predicted him as gangster as he has never shown that face in front of us. He looks normal and has same life style whenever we saw him, which proves that there is possibility that a person whom we talked to daily, whom we consider as friend, whom we believe, whom we love, whom we respect, admire have other side which is not visible to us until the last moment. That other side can be a gangster.

Background of Characters:

Ø  Any work that is new in the city will be started by chance and for sure it is not planned.  There are many reasons of which one is enough for a person to take wrong path. However a work is started by a single person, based on possibilities and interest that single person can grow his scope of work where he needs people to support his work. As that single person grows into a group, he might take up new challenge like expanding his work to international level or move towards politics. When he takes up new challenge he assigns the current responsibilities to one of his or some of his worth full people by which groups will be created. One such person who has taken up group to work for a mafia leader is Bahu.

Ø  As the days pass on, Bahu started entering into politics giving up his work to two important people Bheeku matrai and Guru Narayan from his group. Bheeku and Guru were very good friends who used to work together for any assignment. Guru is a type of guy who always wants to grow fast, whereas Bheeku is a type of guy who wants to grow strong. Hence, when they were given with two areas, Guru used to develop small connections with the mafia leader who is operating from Dubai whereas Bheeku used to grow strong within his area by maintaining a strong team.  However they were very close and used to take the control on two areas with mutual understanding, small ego clashes started slowly which separates them mentally though physically they seems to be close to each other.

Ø  Guru is an orphan who used to have business mind from his childhood. He used to do anything for the work that comes across him. He wants to grow his business fast, so he joins with Bahu who works for mafia directly. He is intelligent enough to use the braveness and openness of Bheku by doing friendship with him and moving closely with his family. Even if he wants to cross the rules for his business first he deals in terms of business only, if it is not working he will go to any extent to get his business done. However Guru and Bheku were mentally separated, Guru never faced problem in crossing the rules with Bheku until Satya joined Bheku.

Ø  Bheeku is a slum boy born and brought up from the same area. He used to do many works for his living but due to his jovialness, short temper, fast decision making, mentality of falling for people words easily he will be thrown out of that works very fast. He never bothered about losing his works as most of the time he likes spending time with his local gang. He believes that he will become king of the area one day. He is always fascinated about local gangster Bahu who works for mafia and assumes him as a hero of that area. He has father who wants to live respectful and peaceful life. However his father teaches him good things from childhood, his attitude is grownup with the influence of his surroundings.  His father has a sister and she have daughter who loves Bheeku and always backup him. She has the character that is apt to the attitude of Bheeku by which she is able to manage him, she is very bold, organized. Whatever he does outside, the time he spent with this girl is always special.  When he formed a group to support Bahu, he has strong members due to the way they share the work and relations they maintain. Bheeku, however he is the leader of the gang he used to move closely and very jovial with all the members. He has grown from the stage where he assumed Bahu as hero to the stage where the next generation people like Chandra praises and adores him like hell.

Ø  Every day will be a history to the next day. Satya at an age of 27 is not exceptional to this generic fact. However he is shown as entering Mumbai city from nowhere, for sure he has a history which holds 27 years of his life.  The length of his history purely depends on the memorable, notable, forgettable moments he had in his life. Though there is no clue about his history, his behavior in the film draws the following lines.
ü  He came alone to city and said he doesn’t have anyone which says that he might be orphan or he doesn’t want to reveal or recall about his past.
ü  He is ready to stay in the lowest place and do even low but right job. For first time he has not reacted, but from the second time he reacted immediately on the people who is disturbing him. This shows that his past had teaches him that he can live anywhere and can take up any small job but at the same time he learned that the fear he shows in front of others is the energy for them to attack him.
ü  He joined hands immediately upon the request from Bheeku. Upon many questions from Bheeku he answered clearly only for few of them. Even after knowing the type of work he joined Bheeku gang. By birth or by his past experience he has the ability to study people fast.  He is a reserved and talks very less; he wants to hide what he has done or there is nothing important he has that can be shared with him. If he tries to hide, then either his past or the task he is going to take up is powerful than the other which in either way it is not that much useful to share the information.
ü  He falling in love with Vidya and hiding that he is gangster shows that however rough he looks there is a soft corner inside him.
ü  Whatever he was in the past, he has given very good value to Bheeku and played a key role in all his executions. Even knowing there is risk for him, he has taken the revenge for his friend’s death.
ü  Whatever he is doing, he always spent value time with Vidya that made them get closer. His love on her made him to discuss with Bheku on telling the truth to her, however he even given respect to Bheku words. Even knowing that he is fighting with death, his love on her made him to reach her instead of escaping from that place.

Ø  The area where Bheeku, Satya and gangsters live became one of the important characters in this movie. Gangsters stayed in normal places just like other people. For instance, Satya stayed in opposite flat of Vidya in an apartment where rest all flats were occupied by normal public. They used to run their operations from an office which is in center of town only. They do murders in the center of road; they chase their opponent in between public across the roads.

Evolution of characters:

A person, who takes gun into his hands unofficially, will be killed by that gun. Irrespective of how it was happened, he is solo responsible for his decisions. In order to unveil the hidden truths and life style of Gangsters there is a need of a character that can travel into life’s of gangsters.--Satya

As the story is all about exploring hidden truths in the gangster life, the play should run on an established gangster’s environment. Bheku is a strong gangster who maintains gang of around 10 people to perform blackmail, money collecting, and murder related activities.

Any story will be more interesting when there is strong antagonist to the protagonist. In case of gangsters, the strong opponent can be considered as Police, however as this story is more about the hidden side life of gangsters there is possibility to find opponent within gangster.
In any type of work where there is competition there is possibility of ego clashes, direct/indirect fight between them. Gang wars is not an exceptional to this, hence a group that works in parallel with Bheku gang is the one maintained by --Guru

The official counterpart to the gangsters is police. Generally, any government job has a set of rules and levels that needs to be followed; of course in police department it is clearly visible. There are two ways, 1 is to follow the rules and the other is to go beyond the rules to break down gangsters. Khandilkar followed the first principle as he is just inspector; Sukla followed 2nd principle as he is police commissioner and is able to command political leaders as well.

Very few people go to gang wars intentionally whereas most of the people will be influenced or forced by any event to join the gang wars. Satya fall under second grade where he will be mistreated by a person from Guru Gang. In any work there will be a person who tries to misuse his position just to show off or overconfident, Jagga bhai from Guru Gang is one such person and is used to make Satya involve in gang wars.

As the story is influenced from the fact that any person who stays very close to us and whom we believed or talked to can be a gangster, heroine Vidya is placed in the front flat of Satya and given an attitude of simple life loving. She is alone and got a deceased father and aged mother as dependents by which she has an environment where she feels of sharing her thoughts with others like Satya whom she believed.

However a person by profession is a gangster, by nature he is human being who has the generic emotions. To show one such generic emotion the family relations of a gangster, Bheeku has got two children and a wife who has an attitude that suits well with Bheeku attitude.

In the list of the activities like money collection, black mailing, murder, political support performed by gangsters activities linked with politics is the interesting one.  As the next level, any settled gangster plans to extend his wings towards international market or political side. Bhau who was then boss of Bheku and Guru has moved to political side and he is also used to show the political connection of gangsters.

In order to show the execution of the murder attack by gangsters, a film producer and Bappu were used.
The money collection activities were shown using a contractor, Yeda and gang.
In black mailing activity by a gangster, a music director is used which in turn helped to grown love between Vidya and Satya.

In any illegal activities there will be a problem in the form of case by police, at the same time there is also a solution in the form of lawyer who is going prove that gangster is innocent and police is ignorant. Mule is such a lawyer who works for Bheku.

Due to more experience in the respective field, age, more talkative power, jovial ness there is a possibility of existence of a person in the gang by giving elderly advices. Kallu mama is such a person who behaves as the patient, intelligent and friendly just like right hand to Bheku.

There are people who saw the heroism in the activities of gangsters and end their life by blindly following them; Chander is one such guy who admires Bheku madly.

Even power cut in apartment flats, rain, and song by Vidya helped to initiate interest in Satya on Vidya
