Emotional Exaggeration: Movie vs Alcohol

               Emotional Exaggeration: Movie vs Alcohol

Story telling is more powerful than alcohol. Yes, a person is more addicted to story listening/reading/seeing than to consuming alcohol. Starting from childhood until the person take send off from the life this addiction knocks them to listen to the stories their grandmother tells them, to involve deep into the story that their friends tell them about what they hear from some other person, to listen to the stories from teachers, to read comic books, to watch movies, to read novels, to read newspapers, to watch news channels, to enjoy slow never ending serials. Even today, where TV Serials, News Channels, You Tube Short stories are entertaining people in large scale, people are still voting movie as the best cheap and healthy product that can exaggerate human emotions for long period than any other.

I believe in consuming alcohol exaggerate a person’s emotions and makes him express his feelings just like a child. It also makes that person to connect to any topic/situation very easily and owns that as his right just like a child who involves so deep and excites so purely with every task he/she performs.  Is this exaggeration, deep involvement, pure excitement and fearless expression in child attitude made sir.RGV state that “By birth I am old and trying to grow towards childhood state”, who knows that might be true as these characteristics help us to live every moment in the life.

Similarly, a movie makes people to get away from their attitude and makes them connect, involve and travel with the characters in the story. Movie makes people exaggerate with the exciting characteristics in the attitude of the characters around which it runs the story. As any person enjoys getting amplified emotionally, the same exaggeration behavior in movie makes a person love it, adores it and made it as one of the mandatory thing in the day to day life.

When watching a movie is legal and it is available at a price less than that of 30 ml cheap liquor, and it is available in large sums in different genres giving a scope to have a selection, moreover when the impact of the exaggeration it is creating is staying for a long period haunting us with the attitude in its characters and making us to watch it again and again, why I should not compare movie with alcohol and say people gets more addicted to movie than alcohol. When its impact is on all age groups definitely it is powerful than alcohol.

In general, if a movie is so powerful why there are openings to only star heroes why not to every film. If a person love is on the film then why he/she is selecting films by an actor rather than genre of the film?

The reason for this might be that a person is connected to his personal attitude or type of the films he give us. If it is to his personal attitude, I believe people are matured enough to know that what they see in reel is different from real. In this case, social network and news channels are helping to understand reel actors real attitude. Of course, its human tendency to try to know more about a person whom we like. Initially we might like a person by his style or type of the films he act. Later, in addition to his reel performance his personal attitude will also amplify us to go to his movies. It is well known fact that only the strength in the subject brings value to his performance but not his style alone gives hit. Point is very simple; if his style alone is sufficient then all the movies he acts should be hit?

If it is the type of the films he act is bringing openings to his film, then how come he always acts in same type of film when he is working with different directors. Even if different directors try to give him same type of film which he believe that his fans would like it, then why not all his films are made hit.

Even if it is personal like on the actor or it is the like on the type of the films he give to audience may bring audience to theaters but in the end it is only the exaggerating factor in the movie that makes it hit. Though current generation know that an actor real life is different from reel life, and all his movies cannot be a hit even then they give them good openings. The reason is very simple that we Indians feel exaggerated when we connect ourselves to people whom we feel we know them. Just to enjoy that exaggeration we are unknowingly building walls within ourselves. The excellent thing is when we can overcome this initial exaggeration there is a lot of scope for better exaggeration. Though current generation on knowing this fact trying to come out, people who are enjoying the benefits of our emotional separation are not allowing us to come out of this initial exaggeration. I believe our generation is getting crushed in the peak stage of this change and definitely next generation can easily feel the difference. Crazy thing is people called sir.RGV as crazy fellow who has overcome these emotions long back. We always ignore the people or even scold them when we are not ready to accept the fact, but by the time we are ready to accept, the person who told that fact may not be there. This has been repeating from our ancestor’s time and may be there until people cannot come out of the fear of accepting the facts.

When people are so addicted to movies why not the theaters count is increasing. To be frank enough, taking the count of Telugu movies alone, on an average 4 movies are releasing every week which is huge count. Moreover in worldwide, TFI is the only place which has big number of releases. In this context, if people are so addicted to movies, definitely the theaters count should be increased by now but the fact is they are running under loss. I don't know about the case where theaters are being controlled by few people in the industry. Whatever, if a movie is bringing good profits to a theater I believe no person will take away that film and release some other film. I have seen the case where a good running movie is taken away due to new release and when this new release is not doing good they have re-released that earlier film which was doing good. I believe people are coming to theaters irrespective whether movie is small or big have known or unknown actors. All we want is a very good film which makes us to watch it again in the next show. It is very clear though the count of the movies is more the impact of the exaggeration they are creating is very minimal.

Any movie which can exaggerate its audience will be huge hit irrespective of actor, director, producer, shortage of theaters and any other silly reason. Moreover there is no standard template to exaggerate audience; it varies with subject to subject and with the characters in the subject. Though current generation is enjoying comedy more, the fact is only the strong subject in that movie makes audience to connect it. Comedy is only one of the many factors by which a person gets exaggerated and it is not the only factor. If comedy is the only factor, sir.RGV may not be able to keep up his market even after 25 years of his experience with the films like “The Attacks of 26/11”. From that NTR period to this NTR period almost all the movies have a comedy part involved in it but the sad or happy part I can’t say its percentage got changed now. Earlier comedy was tried from the characters that use to play a crucial role in the movie, later separate comedy tracks were designed and now the story is built on the set of comedy tracks. There is nothing wrong in making movies that entertain people but in the name of entertainment I believe we are missing the feel of getting exaggerated. I say comedy will also exaggerates but it impact is temporary just like having cigarette which gives the feel of relief still having it. I really accept with the exaggeration that people gets with continuous comedy scenes from a movie but actual strength in movie is not temporary exaggeration it has more than that it should take us completely away from our current life make us travel with the characters in the story. Very few directors like sir.RGV have that capacity even now. No one can even imagine a story like Satya which completely runs on gangsters in our words the villains. In other films these people will be hated or will have no value from audience, but in Satya they became the protagonists and sir.RGV has made us to travel with them, run with them, live with them, cry with them. Leave Satya, even now in the film “The Attacks of 26/11” he made us travel with terrorists on the boat, in the cabs to the stations, to the cafe, to the hotel, made us to walk with them on the road, made us to give water to them, made us to pull them out of the car and beat him to the hell. That is the strength of the movie which is understood by very few directors like sir.RGV who enjoys the exaggeration which he gets on exaggerating the public through his movies.

As sir.RGV said “people will see only what they want to see”. There is no tool that can judge which film a person is going to see as people’s point of view and their point of consideration will always change to theme to theme and time to time. If there is any standard format, the great NTR garu whom Telugu people believe that lord Rama might look like him would have not played the Ravanbrahma role in Seetarama Kalyanam movie, the great RGV garu would have not made Satya a movie on gangsters. From this I can say, when people are getting exaggerated with fiction characters, they will get more exaggerated when we show the characters which he/she talks more, a character which he use to face frequently, a character which he heard most of the times but has not seen, a character which used to annoy her in her daily life, a character which used to care her in her past days, a character which she wants to travel, a character which was he sometime back or a character which he wants to be in future.…  there are many such characters and situations around which a story can be built at the same time maintaining the ingredients that is required to make it exaggerate its viewers.

I am always thankful to my guru RGV sir as he and his book "Na Istam" is my inspiration to analyze anything for an example above "Emotional Exaggeration: Movie vs Alcohol"
